Dear Readers,
I have added Google Translator as a new widget on the sidebar. . . Give it a try and let me know what the results are, if you wish. Remember that these on-line translators are very imperfect and can translate word for word but not the intent and meaning . . . that is hard for people to do let alone an electronic brain.
Poetry is difficult to understand under the best of circumstances . . . and will probably be more difficult through the translator . . . but with so many people from different countries coming to visit, I thought it might be helpful.

Well . . . to say the least, it is not satisfactory, but we knew it. I know english leave some people on the side of the road, but to my point of view, it is best to work with a dictionary - as I do - when you use words I don't know, but a machine translation, as you point it out, will never give the exact representation of the poet intentions. In French, it gives a vague idea of the story, but kills the spirit of it.
I wonder about German ?

Nice idea! I usually use traslate only for words (as a dictionary), not for all the sentence, because the grammatical structures aren't the same. The quality of the traslation depends from the language. From english to italian it'is bad, but for example from spanish to italian is very good (and also from english to german, I think). So I think that the traslate machine is good for giving a general idea of the matter, but about the poetry is better the regoular traslation.

Thank you both for your comments. I guess it can't hurt and maybe can be a help. I saw a translator on another blog that had a lot of flags to chose from . . . but I figured I had enough flags on my pages and that the drop down bar was neat and tidy.
I believe that computer translators will get better and I am looking forward to that day . . . but in the meantime . . this is the best we can do .. . .

Thank you for your comment Anonymous, It does makes sense to read, and understand, as best you can in English, and THEN compare in your Mother tongue . . . hmmm . . . I never thought of that . . .
I think that most people who come here can read English pretty well anyway . ..
